Alex Hegenbarth has joined calls to make sure the furlough scheme isn't ended too soon as it would be a disaster for thousands of families and businesses across the county.
The Conservatives have detailed planning to taper back furloughing, with options including cutting the 80 per cent wage subsidy many families are relying on to 60 per cent, with further small reductions to follow, meaning that people would become worse off over time.
Alex said "The furlough scheme is protecting millions of workers from redundancy across the country, including many people in Gloucestershire - everyone knows someone it’s helping. With schools and nurseries closed it’s become a vital lifeline for many parents.
"The rush to shut down the scheme could leave many people at a crisis point - the last thing we'd want is to see people forced into unsafe situations in order to make ends meet."
