Tewkesbury MP turning back on flood victims in Gloucestershire is ‘a slap in the face’

In a recent Commons vote, Lawrence Robertson snubbed calls to thank flood responders and voted against a motion calling for an independent review to access the government’s response and to assess what lessons need to be learned.

Alex Hegenbarth, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson said “Refusing to back calls to thank first responders and local organisations for their hard work during the recent storms is a slap in the face not only to them but to the hundreds of people whose homes and businesses have been impacted, even ruined, but the flooding seen across the area.”

“A number of lessons need to be learned on how we can meet the challenges of continued development in our county with the changing nature of weather patterns and the impacts they will have - it’s time we had local MPs who actually put their constituents first for a change.”

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the Environmental Agency, first responders, Tewkesbury Borough Council, and local volunteers for their hard work over recent weeks.”
